Emo is a type of rock music characterized by melodic musicianship, with expressive and confessional lyrics. It originated in mid 80′s as hardcore punk movement of Washington, D.C. to describe “emotional hardcore” bands such as Rites of Spring and Embrace. However, in early 90′s, these bands broke up and the emo belt was passed over to slightly less hardcore, and more indie rock bands like Texas is the Reason, Jawbreaker, Christie Front Drive, and Sunny Day Real Estate.
