Chevy & Chevy Wheels
Oct 12, 2011 Chevy
I think a lot of us – I think my uncle even had one at one point with Factory Chevrolet Wheels . If I remember right, it was a Silverado .. so I’m pretty sure he had OEM Chevrolet Silverado Wheels .
Chevrolet is a brand that’s produced by GM and was founded by a man named Louis Chevrolet .. I wonder how you get a last name like that? When Chevrolet had founded the brand, he ousted the GM founder (William C. Durant) on November 8, 1911; Chevy was then acquired by GM by 1917.
Chevrolet had been positioned by a man named Alfred Sloan in order to sell a lineup of mainstream cars to specifically compete against the Model T -created by Henry Ford – in the 1920s.
Here in North America, Chevrolet gives us the option of choosing from a full range of automobiles; they offer everything from subcompact cars to medium – duty commercial trucks; this must be some kind of a paradise if you like your options, you know?
On November 8, 1912, Louis Chevrolet – who was both a racecar driver and an automotive engineer – cofounded the Chevrolet Motor Car Company with William C.
Durant and investment partners William Little and Dr. Edwin R. Campbell. Durant was the ousted founder, Little was the maker of Little Automobile, and Campbell was Durant’s son in law. I know, it’s a lot to take in .. I hope you’re still with me.
When the design work for the first Chevy – the costly Series C Classic Six – had started, it was actually designed and drawn up by Etienne Planche.
I guess you can say that whatever Louis Chevrolet told him to draw, he drew it. The very first C prototype was complete and ready months before they had incorporated Chevy.
Crazy, right?
They first used their “bowtie” emblem logo in 1913. Rumor has it that Durant designed it after he saw some wallpaper that he liked in a French hotel. There was some more recent research found by Ken Kaufmann that stated the “bowtie” logo is based on a logo that was for the “Coalettes”. There’s other people that say that the logo was a stylized Swiss Cross; this was in honor of the homeland of Chevrolet’s parents.
I personally think that as long as it’s there, people shouldn’t really worry about it – it’s just an emblem .. but that’s just me.
During the 1950s & the 1960s, Chevrolet was the one that had a pretty big influence on the American Automobile Market. Around 1953 is when they manufactured the Corvette. The Corvette is the famous two-seater sports car with a fibreglass body. By 1957, Chevy was already introducing their first fuel – injected engine with Factory Chevrolet Rims on the vehicle ! The Rochester Ramjet option had been on the Corvette and other passenger cars at 4; I wonder how expensive that’d be now? In 1960, they released & introduced the Corvair with a rear – mounted air – cooled engine .. kind of like the VW Bug .. I think.
Three years later, in 1963, one out of every ten cars that was sold in the United States was a Chevrolet.
It’s amazing to see how far they’ve come with their mechanics & even with their wheels : compare the 1992 Tahoe Wheels with the 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe Wheels; nice, right? I think that no matter what (in my opinion), Chevy is probably going to end up always being than Ford. I just think that they’re more reliable.
What do you think? I think you’re on the same page as I am .. right?
