When it comes to selling a for sale by owner vehicle, the owner must prepare the vehicle to be sold. In order to prepare the vehicle for sale, there are certain steps that one must take. No one wants to buy a dirty vehicle; therefore you must condition the vehicle as close to new as possible. In order to do so you must have some basic cleaning supplies such as brushes, cleaning products, a vacuum cleaner, carpet shampoo, water, and abucket.
To get started, wash the vehicle with a soft bristle brush and a mild detergent. Give your vehicle a good scrubbing, rinse, and dry with a clean soft towel. Once the vehicle has been washed, apply a soft wax in a circular motion, paying close attention to details. Allow the wax to dry and buff with a clean dry rag. If your vehicles finish does not shine, you may need to apply a buffing compound to your vehicles finish. A buffing compound should be applied in a similar fashion to wax in a circular motion and buffed off with a clean buffing cloth.
A vehicles interior is just as important as the exterior. Start by removing all of your personal belongings from the interior of the vehicle and vacuuming it out well. Use a carpet shampoo to shampoo the carpet and upholstery. Leave the vehicle for several hours with the windows down in order to remove any moisture that is retained within the fabric. Continue to clean the interior by wiping down all components such as the dashboard control panels, door panels, and interior molding, and all interior glass.
Visit Craigslist cars for sale and find the city closest to where you live. Click on posted classified and create an ad for your vehicle. The title of your ad should be descriptive and contain information such as your vehicles make, model, year, and a descriptive word that describes the condition. Within the advertisement, use as many positive descriptive words as possible and highlight all of the features of your vehicle. Use a digital camera and take photographs of your vehicle including the interior, exterior, and the engine compartment.
Preparing a vehicle to sell requires a few hours of your time and a little elbow grease. If you are willing to get your hands dirty and clean your ride up, you will receive top dollar for your vehicle. Remember, nobody wants to buy a dirty used vehicle. A clean used vehicle will sell much faster than a dirty one and can also sell for hundreds of dollars more. Spend a little time cleaning your car and it will sell for much more money in a faster period of time.
