Used Renault Megane Hatch

Renault have been producing the Megane since 1995, it is a small family car available as a 3 door, 5 door, coupe and estate. The current Megane went on sale in 2008; it is not the distinctive hatchback its predecessor had become.

The Megane is available with a selection of petrol and diesel engines, the petrol range starts with two 1.6s with either 99bhp or 109bhp. There are also two turbocharged petrol engines, a smooth and punchy 1.4 with 129bhp, and a 2.0 with 178bhp. There is also a 138bhp 2.0 litre that is only available with a CVT gearbox.

The diesel line-up includes an 85bhp and 105bhp 1.5-litre unit; there is a 1.9 litre with 128bhp. There is also a 2.0 diesel that has 158bhp as a manual and 148bhp as an automatic.

The new Megane has a responsive steering which means taking corners is great fun, it turns very crisply. Body roll is very minimal and grip is adequate, the ride can be firm at times but not back breaking or uncomfortable.

Given that it is a family car the Megane is expected to travel on all types of roads, around town the car is very poised with a nice engine note, on the motorway there is some wind and road noise present but not enough to put me off buying a used Renault Megane Hatch, it really is great car to drive.

The Megane has everything going for it; it is competitively priced and has plenty of standard equipment.

It handles well and is available with some superb engines, including some particularly clean and economical diesels.
